Information & Communication Technology
The ICT Department teaches a skills programme in word processing, desktop publishing, presentation, spreadsheets, databases and graphics at KS3. At KS4 students follow the AiDA or CiDA courses to achieve ICT qualifications equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 GCSEs.
In Year 7 we begin by looking at the rules for making presentations and then move on to producing branching stories. Experience is given in using graphic packages to enable students to provide their own graphics for their work. Students also cover simple use of spreadsheets and databases; look at both the safety issues in using the internet and how to search, validate and verify information; work also includes desk top publishing and website design. Throughout all of the above students are working towards more independent use of ICT to provide solutions to problems.
Final Year KS3 builds on the skills and experiences gained in the past. Generally the work has been based on projects which require ICT solutions. Ideally students should be able to do this independently by the end of the course so the skills being covered include analysis of problems, planning, designing solutions, implementing and testing the design, reviewing the solution and gaining feedback from others.
Year 10 AiDA
The aim of this course is to provide every student the opportunity to gain at least one GCSE equivalent by the end of Year 11. Students have begun working on Unit 1 which, it is hoped, will be completed by the end of the Academic Year. If this is the case there is then time to complete another unit giving the opportunity of 2 GCSE equivalent passes.
Year 10 CiDA
The CiDA qualification comprises two units of work. Unit 1 is compulsory and covers ICT Tools and Applications. The second unit will cover Graphics. If the deadline dates of February for Unit 1 and June for the second unit are met then it is possible to complete other units to give more GCSE equivalents.
Year 11 AiDA
The aim of this course is to provide every student the opportunity to gain at least one GCSE equivalent by the end of the year. Students have begun working on Unit 1 which must be completed by the end of the Academic Year.
Year 11 DiDA
The DiDA qualification comprises four units of work. Unit 1 is compulsory and covers ICT Tools and Applications. The second unit covers Graphics, the third Multimedia and the fourth Enterprise. At the moment students are at various stages of completion within this but all work has to be completed before the end of the Academic Year. |
