School Buses
Free School Travel
If you believe that your child may be eligible for free travel you must contact 0113 3481121 and speak to a member of the team at Metro. Eligibility is dependent upon a number of factors.
Half-fare Travel
You qualify if you are a 5 to 18 year-old in full-time education. If you are aged 11 to 16, you will need a Young Person's Photocard to prove your age. It is advisable that all students purchase a Young Person's Photocard for a one off payment of £2. An application form for the Young Person's Photocard can be obtained from DYCA, the Metro Travel Centre or a bus station. Please complete the form and take it to:
- A Metro Travel Centre
- Other Bus Station Travel Centre
- Any Post Office in West Yorkshire
You will need:
- The application form
- A recent passport size photograph (colour or black and white)
- £2 administration fee
- One proof of identity and age such as your birth certificate or NHS medical card
You have to show up in person to get your Photocard – someone else cannot get it for you. Your Young Person's Photocard is valid until the 15th September after your 16th birthday. If you are aged 16 to 18 and in full-time education, you will need a Scholar's Photocard. Application forms for the Scholar's Photocard are available from DYCA Reception, Metro Travel Centres and Post Offices. Your Scholar's Photocard will need to be stamped by DYCA Reception to prove that you are currently in full-time education.
DY20 and DY21 Bus Service
The DY20 and DY21 are part of Metro's 'My Bus' scheme – a partnership between Metro and the Local Education Authority. It features a dedicated bus driver, all seater vehicles with seatbelts and on board CCTV.
If you would like to travel on any of these buses (see attached route details and timetable), you will need to apply for a My Bus Boarding Permit. This must be shown when boarding the DY20 or DY21 bus as it entitles you to a place on the service. You will also have to pay a fare when you board the My Bus and you can use your half-fare pass on this service. If you qualify for free school travel (see the free school travel information above), you can use your zero-fare pass on this service but you must show your pass and Boarding Permit to the driver otherwise you will have to pay a fare.
If you would like to travel on any of the above My Bus services please pick up a form from the DYCA reception, complete it and send it with a recent passport photo with your name on the reverse) and a 1st Class stamp to:
My Bus, Metro
Wellington Street
40-50 Wellington Street
Leeds, LS1 2DE
If you have any questions about the My Bus scheme you can call their hotline on 0113 3481122.
If the services listed don't serve your area, a normal service bus may be the best option. For information on non-school services please visit www.wymetro.com or ring Metro Line on 0113 245 7676 between 7am and 10pm.
